🦋The Migrant Justice Fundraiser is raising funds to support two of our beloved comrades who are facing violence from the Canadian immigration system as it escalates its racist attack on migrants.

Marcia and an unnamed comrade are both facing mountainous legal fees as they navigate Canada’s racist system. All proceeds from this event and the ongoing auction are aiming to raise 20k to support our comrades’ legal fees and basic needs. We have already raised over 13k! Come screenprint and contribute to this community fundy!

Our beloved comrades are facing violence from the Canadian immigration system as it escalates its racist attack on migrants. The government is ramping up deportations, restricting access to permanent residence for countless refugees and migrants, and allowing work permits and study permits to expire without any possibilities of extending or replacing them.

Our community rallied behind Marcia against her imminent deportation, and thanks to hundreds of us mobilizing, we were able to temporarily stop her deportation. Now, Marcia is facing a long process of applying for permanent residency and has to pay approximately $7000 to cover legal fees. She is suffering from immense pain from her medical conditions exacerbated by the stress of her legal processes. Her doctor has ordered her to stop working.

Another comrade is a Black community member who we’ve supported and needs to raise an additional $6000 to continue her legal proceedings. Last fall, IRCC denied her application to extend her work permit because they had lost a fee payment that she had uploaded. We supported her in fundraising for a deposit for her legal fees to challenge the decision in Federal Court. Now that the Court is considering her case, she needs to pay additional fees to continue. The stress of living with the consequences of this IRCC error is immense; she has suffered multiple bouts of shingles and was recently diagnosed with a kidney infection.
