Sudan Solidarity Collective is a Sudanese diaspora group across so-called Canada that builds community and resources grassroots civil society formations at the frontlines of relief efforts in those parts of Sudan that have been hardest hit by militarised state violence.
All funds will go to Emergency Response Rooms and to families displaced from El Fasher to Tawila and Kurma.
In this moment, they are funding three different mutual aid groups on the ground doing critical life-saving work amidst the horrors of violence, hunger and thirst for the people trapped in El Fasher and surrounding areas.
Funds through SSC helped feed 900 people (or 150 families) in one day through food baskets.
Since February, we have been connecting with Sudan Solidarity Collective. In March, our joint fundraiser Thawra! raised over $1300 for Sudan and, together, we learnt first-hand about the Sudanese Revolution and the counter-revolutionary war.
As our SSC comrades write:
“Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April 2023 between two factions of a military coup regime (the RSF and SAF) that grabbed power in October 2021, we have witnessed the manufacturing of “the world’s largest displacement and humanitarian crisis.” It is a crisis rooted in Sudan’s long history of state violence and elite rule. An estimated 500,000 people have died and more than 14 million have been displaced. A famine is taking place with half the population is facing acute hunger in a country that could easily feed itself, while diseases including cholera, measles, and dengue fever spread rapidly. More than 90 percent of school-age children have no access to education, and the public healthcare system has largely collapsed.
In this moment, after 550 days of siege, we are witnessing the UAE-backed RSF take full control of the city of El Fasher after the army negotiated a quiet withdrawal from its last stronghold in Darfur. Over 200,000 civilians are now trapped inside the city with no access to food or healthcare as the RSF commits horrific massacres in a targeted ethnic cleansing campaign against indigenous people in Darfur. In the midst of this unimaginable violence, civilians are organizing for people’s survival through evacuations, food baskets, communal kitchens and urgent health care.”
With the scale of violence and displacement in El-Fasher and across Darfur today, we believe our community can and will continue to move care to action. Collectively we can resource life-saving mutual aid and emergency response during the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crisis caused by the global, imperialist elite.
