Thanks to everyone mobilizing in support of Marcia – after thousands of letters sent and calls made to Canadian immigration and Canada Border Services Agency in the past 2 days, the Canadian govt is now issuing a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for Marcia and cancelling her removal on Friday.

This is a huge victory for Marcia, her daughter, and her beloved communities. Marcia is a survivor of gender-based violence who sought refuge from Chile. Marcia has shown immense strength in rebuilding her life – training as an electrical worker and joining many community groups, including Britannia Community Centre, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House, Tenants Union, City in Colour Cooperative, and more.

Marcia now needs to secure her immigration status, which means lots of legal fees. Please donate if you are able: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-me-in-my-journey-to-permanent-residency

We honour Marcia and all migrants fighting a violent deportation machinery and border controls. Whether migrant workers being exploited for labour for bosses to reap profits, or international students subsidizing corporatized post-secondary education, criminalized migrants behind bars, or those facing repressive and ableist ‘security’ or ‘medical’ inadmissibility, or Palestinian and Sudanese families fighting for family reunification of displaced refugees – we say no human being is illegal!

Marcia’s fight is part of a much bigger struggle. There is a racist anti-migrant push in Canada to increase deportations, and restrict access to permanent residency for countless migrants and refugees like Marcia.

Scapegoating of migrants for low-wages, rising food costs, and precarious housing is overwhelming the news cycle. As part of the tariff deal with the US, Canada will increase border surveillance by $1.3 billion, while increasing deportations and cancelling 75,000 study and work permits. We demand: end the war on migrants!

Movements against gentrification in the Downtown Eastside, to fighting for Land Back from the Yintah to Palestine, to ending all border and all policing violence: struggles against capitalist and colonial displacement are connected.
