Canada is escalating its attacks on migrants:
- Carney’s new budget slashes refugee spots by over 10,000, is cutting international student numbers in half, and gutting basic healthcare for refugees.
- Bill C-12 is being pushed through in Parliament and is a machinery of deportation. It allows the Carney government to deport refugees without a hearing, imposes arbitrary retroactive one-year bars, and grants mass immigration status-cancellation powers to ministers.
- Canada Border Services Agency will be hiring 1,000 more officers and plans to increase deportations by 25 percent over the next few years.
While Carney rode into power claiming to fight Trump, C12 and these recent budget announcements are a mirror of the anti-migrant ICE violence, raids, kidnappings and deportations in the US.
