On World Refugee Day, 50 people took over Canada Border Services Agency offices, demanding the withdrawal of Anti-Refugee Bill C-2!

Over 50 people took over the offices of Canada Border Services Agency offices, 7th floor, 300 West Georgia, as well as the building lobby. We joined over 200 organizations across the country demanding that the Government of Canada withdraw the recently tabled Bill C-2 and for Parliament to ensure equal rights and permanent resident status for all migrants and refugees.

Prime Minister Carney has been campaigning on standing up to Donald Trump, but this anti-migrant and racist Bill C-2 mirrors the intense violence, raids, kidnappings, and deportations by ICE that we are witnessing in the US. Over the past year, we have witnessed the massive expansion of Canada’s deportation machinery. Every day, over 3,000 study and work permits are expiring due to immigration cuts. This Bill worsens these anti-migrant attacks.

Bill C-2 puts more money into border control and makes it harder for migrants and refugees to enter and remain in Canada. Bill C-2 proposes to:

  • Prevent a majority of migrants from making refugee claims in Canada
  • Expand the Safe Third Country Agreement, Canada’s border wall with the US
  • Expand powers for deportations including by revoking immigration documents
  • Increase surveillance and policing against all people in Canada

This Bill is a shameful entrenchment of racism and xenophobia, and must be rejected. We resist the global criminalization of migration, especially by the very same countries like Canada that create mass misery and displacement through genocide, extraction, and climate change around the world. No one is illegal on stolen land!
